Victoria Day

On Monday we had a very long weekend.  The kids had Monday and Tuesday off from school for Victoria day.  I remember when I was a kid, on Victoria day we would always drive down to Kalispell for the day.  We used to camp at Blaine Lake, and we had a dock there, so my Dad wanted to check the water out, and see if the dock survived another winter.  Plus, we all love Kalispell, so it was a chance to see our second home.  Victoria Day always makes me think of my sister Jo because her Birthday is May 21, and always falls close to the long weekend.  We didn't get a chance to go and celebrate with her, but we tried to find other ways to fill up the weekend.

Marcus did some vacuuming.  He made it even more fun by listening to the iPod while he was doing it.

Drew took the boys for "a walk".  The walked over to the mall and saw "The Avengers".  Phoenix's favorite character was "the Green Guy".  He has been walking around all week, doing the Hulk face and growling.

Taylor loves to be in her stroller and go for walks.  She likes to sit in her stroller in the back yard and chase her brothers around.

Our Hairy Scary Week, a Baptism, and Some Other Fun Stuff

I was putting off writing this post.  Not because it was bad, but it was such an emotional week that I think I needed a bit of time to process it all, and to try to get over it a bit.

Part 1:  The Hairy Scary Part.

Drew spent the last weekend in April sick in bed.  I admit that I was being a super bad wife, and not being very sympathetic.  It was a busy weekend with Davis' party and all, and I was being a little self-involved.  He kept getting sicker and sicker.  By Sunday night he was feeling H1N1 sick again.  I offered to take him to the Hospital, but he told me that he would rather wait until the morning and just go to the Walk-in-Clinic.  So, I found someone to come and give him a blessing, and he went to bed.  The next morning, I took Davis to the bus stop, and was getting ready to take him to the clinic, but by this point he couldn't talk and he couldn't swallow any Tylenol.  He took a shower to see if that would help loosen his throat, but it didn't work, so he said a prayer, and got the impression that he needed to go to the ER.  We were very lucky that he got seen right away.  The nurses at Triage realized that something bad was going down (unlike the stupid people in Lethbridge (sorry, I am still way bitter about that ER trip)), and he got seen right away.  They checked him out and did a throat x-ray and discovered that he had Epiglottitis, and got him into the ICU so that they could monitor him and make sure his throat didn't close off.  It was scary.  It brought back all the feelings from when he was sick before.  I was worried about how I was going to handle things with him gone, and try to spend time with him, and try to be a Mom still.  I have a really hard time asking people for help, so I called my RS President and told her that I needed help with my kids.  My ward was great.  They were able to find babysitters for me in the afternoon so I could go spend a few hours with Drew, and then Katie got done with work early so I could take one of the kids up each day to visit Drew.  I know that my family was blessed during this week.  I know that Heavenly Father listened to and answered my prayers.  I know that he prompted other people to help me fulfill needs.  There are two very specific times that people listened to the promptings of the Spirit.  One night I was feeling down, and it was dinner time, and I knew that I needed to do more than just cereal for the kids, but I had no energy to do anything.  I was trying to decide what to do, when I heard a knock on my door.  My Visiting Teacher was at the door with dinner.  I didn't ask anyone to bring meals, but I needed one that day, and she was there.  Another day, the Compassionate Service Leader didn't have any luck finding someone to watch the kids.  Not long after I got off the phone with her, then my friend called and said that she wanted to watch them that day.  We truly appreciated all the phone calls, and all the prayers and well-wishes that were sent our way.  I couldn't have gotten through the week without the support of so many others.

After I took the boys up to see their Dad, I would take them on little mini-dates.  I had to run a few errands at the mall, so Phoenix decided for his treat he wanted a balloon. He was so excited that we were able to find an orange star balloon.

Part 2:  The Baptism

Since Davis' Baptism was scheduled for May 5, we weren't exactly sure what was going to happen.  We just had to wait and see if we could still do it.  I talked to Davis about the possibility of postponing it, but he was disappointed, and I felt that that wasn't what we wanted to do.  One night our Bishop called me to check-up on us, and to talk about what we were planning.  He told me that while he was interviewing Davis he felt that there would be opposition to the Baptism.  He felt like something would happen, but it would be short-lived.  He sounded apologetic of his feelings, because he told me that he had no idea it would be something like this.  I have always felt that Davis was a special boy, and it was a testimony to me that he truly is.  We (okay...mostly me, Drew was pretty drugged out) decided that it would be best if we pressed forward with having the Baptism as planned.  I felt like it was a test of my Faith to press forward.  At times I didn't know if I was exercising Faith, or if it was ridiculous stubbornness that I was showing.  I think we did the right thing.  Drew was able to get out of the Hospital on Friday afternoon, and he was able to perform Davis' Baptism and Confirmation.   We were very lucky to have lots of family support, and lots of family came to support us that day.  It was so incredible to see my boy get Baptized.

Part 3:  Some Other Fun Stuff

We've been playing a game where you throw a hulahoop over the fence, and if you can catch it you get a point.  It is fun, but I am not very good at it.  Last night Marcus decided to be the scorekeeper.
